If you have solar panels and your roof needs replacing, the panels have to come off first and go back on after. That job is called detach and reset.

How it works

• The system is shut down and disconnected.
• The panels and mounting hardware come off and are stored safely.
• The roofer replaces the roof.
• The panels go back on, are reconnected and tested.

Why it takes an electrician

Disconnecting and reconnecting a solar system is electrical work. It should be done by a licensed electrical contractor, not by the roofing crew.
